What did David Berkowitz do BEFORE the whole Son of Sam brouhaha?
1. For example, what, exactly, did Berkowitz do in the Army? He was stationed in Korea, but was he in the artillery? Signal Corps? Mess Hall? Like a lot of young soldiers, he was disciplined for stealing food from the mess hall kitchen. He was disciplined twice for not moving with his outfit (so, he apparently lived OFF base.) Otherwise, he seems to have done okay as a soldier. And no mention of psychiatric problems.
2. David began working at IBI Armored Transport and Security a week or two after his discharge. When did he STOP working for them? One source indicates he stopped working for them the afternoon of July 28, 1976. Or did the company only say that afterwards? He was sent on various assignments, including JFK airport, to guard warehouses and other freight handling facilities. Was he ever assigned to Neptune Worldwide Moving and Storage? Neptune had the EXCLUSIVE contract for securely moving UN personnel from all over the world. Is that how Berkowitz met Fred Cowan?
3. David had a chauffeur's license, but not a hack license. He drove a car for the Co-Op City Cab and Car company, but that was only as a chauffeur. Did he also work as a chauffeur/bodyguard for IBI? Any other companies? He talks about being at ritzy private parties. That's what a chauffeur/bodyguard (or private security guard) would do. That implies he worked for another private security company. Which one?
4. David never had a girlfriend. Ever. Did he have a boyfriend? Cowan was a bodybuilder. Did he have other bodybuilder friends? He didn't drink or do drugs, so he never went to nightclubs. What DID he do, besides work?
5. Prison psychiatrists have unanimously categorized Berkowitz as a stereotypical, self-obsessed, manipulative sociopath. This is obvious from his on-camera interviews. It has always been assumed that the Carr brothers somehow manipulated David into joining their "cult." But it seems more likely that David was the one who may have manipulated THEM (or, at least, Johh) into joining something. David got his friend from the Army to buy David guns in Texas. Who were David's other friends? Craig Glassman?
6. Craig Glassman moved into David's apartment building a few months before the SOS shootings started. He claimed he received harassing letters from David, but those letters sound more like accusations that CRAIG is up to something wicked. David was accused of setting a trashcan on fire outside Craig's apartment, but Craig could just as easily have set that fire himself. Oddly, there were several .22 caliber bullets in the trashcan, but of course, "the Son of Sam" was strictly a .44 caliber man. And Craig matches the description of one of the shooters described by witnesses and survivors. At the time of SOS, Glassman was a reserve (volunteer) "officer" for the Westchester County Sheriff's Office, but he was also a full-time nursing student--just like some of the SOS victims. Did he know any of the victims? Glassman supposedly died in a car accident--just like Michael Carr--around 1990 or 1991, as Maury Terry was on "book tour" promoting The Ultimate Evil. Glassman himself was running around ginning up publicity about a minor book that featured himself. But there is no record of such a death at that time. Glassman may have faked his own death and moved to another state. And there is some evidence to support this. Bizarrely enough, Glassman's daughter Shayna corresponds with Berkowitz and even visits him in prison. Was Craig Glassman one of the long-lost friends of David Berkowitz?
