Where are the videos of people shooting a P38 or Browning Hi-Power ONE HANDED? Not blanks, like Eastwood or Stallone. Where are they?

As always, NEVER take my word for ANYTHING. Go to the pawn shop, buy a second-hand Walther or Browning or M-9, a box of 4.5 grain copper-jacketed "cop killers," go out in the back yard, and start shooting. ONE HANDED. And PLEASE, please, please, make sure you turn the camera on BEFORE you start shooting. We need a good laugh, and you won't be able to tap the "start" button on your phone camera AFTER you pull the trigger. Once.
PS Yes, you can actually bleed to death from a broken nose.

You're right. Crabtree completed basic training, combat arms, jump school, and skipped the mandatory 3-year waiting period and completed SFAS and went straight into crypto, explosives, and what the fuck else, and was back on the streets of Frisco, ALL WITHIN 8 MONTHS. Just like Allen.
This website is NOT for bullshiters who did three years of KP in South Korea to post their Vin Diesel fantasies.

Crabtree was born May 8, 1944. If he enlisted in the Army on his 18th birthday (according his his adopted brother, he didn't) he would not be eligible to even APPLY for SFAS until May 8, 1965--a couple of months before his discharge.
Soooooooooooo, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeven if he enlisted in '62, and eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeven if he got around the 68-inch height requrement, and eeeeeeeeeeeeven if he passed the physical, there is NO WAY he completed so much as SFAS, let alone ANY advanced training as a "Green Beret."
He was just one of MILLIONS of Army bullshitters.

Again, I'm not talking about light target range loads (competition shooters use about 2.5 grains) by someone who's been doing it for years. I'm talking about a limp-wristed typist midget shooting 4.5 grain NATO ammo with a flashlight in the other hand.

Celise: Thanks for your interest, and your comments! First, let me say, I am very careful about what I publish about people who are still alive. So, I have a LOT more on Jim and his adoptive family than I publish. Having said that, I'm 99 percent sure Jim killed Darlene--but not alone. The reason there was a pause in the shooting was to "switch" shooters--and maybe pistols. Jim was adopted from a hospital in LA by Diamond Bell-Phillips (that's a hyphenated name; "Bell" is NOT his middle name) and his, um, wife. I say um, because, after this "wife" died, Diamond apparently lived as husband and wife with his daughter, who may or may not have been adopted, as well. I never found that out. And that's just about the "nicest" thing I've been able to find out about Diamond. Diamond's family were one-time Planters from Alabama who migrated north to Missouri around the time of the Civil War. Diamond's father moved their family to Alta California arrrooooouuuund the time of WWI. Diamond's sister, Mae, married Harold Snook Sr, and their son, Harold Snook Jr, wrote the actual "Zodiac Killer" letters. Soooooooooo...did Hal Snook KNOW Jim? Some of their mutual friends have told me they knew each other. After WWII, Hal got his degree in Journalism from San Jose State University (you will NOT believe who his roommate was...) and then took over two small, bankrupt newspapers in far northern California--near where Diamond lived. Jim would have been a kid then. Hal spent a lot of time with boys, but until Jim himself confirms he was, um, "mentored" by Hal, there is just no way to confirm that part of the story. However, everything Jim ever claimed to "know" about the news biz, and all of his "Special Forces" training (according to Jim's brother, Jim never did anything in the Army beyond clerk/typist) he obviously could have learned from Hal. And I have found quite a bit of evidence that Hal also taught Graysmith everything he needed to know to get HIS first job at a newspaper--at age 12--when Graysmith lived with his parents at Tachikawa AFB, Japan. Hal was an AF officer on the same staff with Colonel Robert G Smith, Sr. Did anything "inappropriate" happen between Hal and his two young proteges? Only they can say. But several people who knew Jim as a boy say they think he had been sexually, physically, and emotionally abused by Diamond. An allegation that, so far as Diamond goes, fits everything I've learned about HIM. Soooooooo...And Hal was his nephew. Some people who knew Hal as an adult have told me that they believed Hal was some kind of pervert, himself, and certainly spent a LOT of time with adolescent boys. Sooooooo... To this day, Jim is a "freelance journalist." He makes most of his money on shady real estate deals. He also tries very hard to cover his tracks. With some--but not total--success. As he will soon find out... I think he killed Darlene. But I think there is a good chance he had an accomplice. Donald Warren Porter? He's at the top of that list. Or at least, someone who knew Donald set him up to take the fall. Porter was arrested July 20, 1969, with the P38 used to shoot Mike and Darlene in his pocket. While he was sitting in the Solano County jail waiting to be arraigned, a funny thing happened: DEAR EDITOR I AM THE MURDERER... Hi Admin Horan The possible connection between Diamond Bell Phillips and Harold/Hal Snook via DBP's apparent sister Mae Phillips, is indeed very interesseting. Could you please provide some kind of official records that show that James Phillips/Crabtree's adopt. father Diamond Bell Phillips had a sister named Mae, and record that show that she married a Harold/Hal Snook ? Because I have now thoroughly researched this matter on my payed ancestry etc. websites and have not found any records that confirm the info in question that you have proclaimed as a fact in your above post. Thanks in advance. Theforeigner

Whatsamatter? Finally getting tired of Voigt's horseshit and his little circle jerk?
Well, thanks for checking. It's really hard to find documentation on Diamond and his family, partly because they themselves don't contribute any. Apparently, nobody liked him. On top of that, Crabtree has helped confuse the issue himself. As a "real estate" player, he has fed false information to Intellius about himself over the years. And of course your good buddy Tom Voigt has done his fair share to muddy the waters. Hal's family won't talk to ANYBODY about him, either. However, we HAVE recently collected quite a pile of documents about Hal, which we will share soon.
PS: About those "letters" Voigt supposedly got back in 2002 from Bangkok and Singapore. Who do YOU think they're from?
PPS: You don't have to post as a guest. You can register.
PPPS: If you want to make yourself really useful, try and find out more about Hal's service in the USAF in the 1950s.

Hi, we've discussed certain elements of the case before. My questions pertains to Jim's adopted brother and if his name was Mike? Lots of odd circumstances with Jim. Such as.
Possibly lying about being at Darlene's funeral.
Sent a letter to an occult shop, with an eerily similar solar cross symbol.
Etc.

I know this sounds like a BS excuse, but I really have been digging up information and interviewing "people" who may or may not have known Crabtree BEFORE Darlene's murder. His adopted brothers don't seem to want anything to do with him (and vice-versa) but one of them did debunk the whole "Jim was a Green Beret" horse hockey. He was just a clerk-typist in Germany. Yes, he was trained to operate encrypted teletype machines "cryptographer," but as Crabtree himself admitted not long ago, that is NOT the same thing as being a cryptANALYST.
The other things you mention sound very interesting. Do you remember where you "heard" them?

Ken Narlow was an investigator on the Berryesa case, in the last years of his life he was still looking for the killer, he had tons of files, including the originals at his house when he died. The Napa police came a few days after his funeral and grabbed them all.

The whole "tons of files" and "thousands of suspects" myth is all baloney. There was one good suspect in each murder (but never the same person in more than one,) and when each investigation got to that point, it would just stop. The only investigation that sputtered along at all after the first couple of weeks was Lynch's investigation into the Ferrin murder in Vallejo. And that ground to a halt after less than a year. "Detectives" like Narlow and Mulanax and the others who did interviews all the time had very little to do with the cases they were shooting their mouths off about. The REAL detectives--Lynch, Lonergan, Armstrong--didn't give interviews. NONE of them believed the "Zodiac Killer" was real.

I also read somewhere that Crabtree said he was not aware that Darlene had been murdered until the detectives came to interview him in jail. However, family members say they clearly remember him being at her funeral. This is all so interesting.

I have been watching the movie to sleep for over a year, know it forward and backward and it seemed messy to me. So they spent all that time searching for Mageau, but why didn't they ever show photo lineups to the sister when they found her in jail or to the two police officers patrolling after the Stine murder? Or to the two children who witnessed the Stine murder from the windows? Children have excellent memories, especially when it comes to a traumatic event. How did Mageau describe someone so closely resembling Crabtree, then pick Allen out of a photo lineup? They look nothing alike. My other nagging question was why did Mageau scream within seconds after being shot, knowing the shooter must still be in range to hear it, then jump to the backseat? Strange unless it was an alert that she wasn't dead.
