Interview from 4-24-81 with Marge Hartsfield, a neighbor at Claremont. The kids were over at her trailer a lot, hungry and unsupervised- Sue rarely home. Always saw her car parked on Main approx ten homes west of the DMV office (Meeks' house before they moved to EQ). A boy w/ a crippled hand was always at the Sharps (Walter Meeks?)
Mr. Smith, a neighbor at Claremont said Sue had worked part time at the Elks Lodge, (2-10 hrs a week) washing dishes. She also did some house cleaning through a job agent. The younger Meeks' kids were always around the Sharp trailer but not the older. The kids were poorly supervised, Sue often gone. Sheila was apparently left in charge but had very little control. Dana came around some, as did the Meeks' kids, especially the one with the crippled hand (Walter). Last dove season John was having trouble firing a jammed shotgun in the field behind Claremont so he helped him repair the gun. Sheila and Tina would often lock the other kids out of the trailer. The Sharp kids appeared older than their peers , probably from growing up on their own.
Mrs Webb was a neighbor for only a month before Sue moved. Sue was never around. The kids were left to fend for themselves. Tina looked "like a little waif". She observed a WMA help the Sharps move (probably Don Davis). The man also helped construct the shed where 2 of the kids slept. (Sheila and Johnny?)
