Hello Professor and everyone!
Hope all is well.
There is a recent book out called "The Wicked King Wicker - The Son of Sam Siege Upon New York City". It is by true crime author, Michael Benson, who has written similar books on Zodiac, the Mafia, Rochester NY- related murders like the Alphabet Murders, etc..
Here is a link to an interview that Mr. Benson did recently, promoting the book:
Although the book doesn't shed any new light or angle on the Son of Sam killings/shootings, what Benson does in the book (and interview) is provide a comprehensive history of the Sam saga, from newspaper reports of the time to Lawrence Klausner's book to Maury's "The Ultimate Evil", etc.. It saves the casual follower, or someone who wants to catch up on a complete historical background, from pre-Sam attacks to current, a ton of searching/researching. For those who are in-depth followers of the case, it's more a refresher than shedding any new light on things already known.
Benson is in the camp that Berkowitz wasn't a lone killer, which helps (NO dog stories!). He's more in line with that this may have been a more localized group (i.e. Yonkers) of young adults passing the same gun around and carrying out the crimes (a view I tend to lean towards also), instead of involving The Process, Manson, etc. connections.
