The girl that Chuck went to Livermore to see was his ex-girlfriend and they had just broken up a month before the murder - so Chuck had only been back in Quincy for about a month because he had been living in Livermore. By the time Chuck's ex was questioned she said that Chuck and Henry may have visited her on Friday night instead of Saturday (several months had gone by and she wasn't really sure). Just curious Tom, is the girl that you say had recently moved to Keddie on the PON list?
This makes a lot of sense Aeffects and as you said they could go to Oroville, Sac, or Reno and buy drugs on the street.

Well, that's my point--there was no reason to make a full-time "connection" bringing in cocaine, but a seasonal market for railroad and lumber workers might have existed. Tom Schmid lived in the cabin across the backyard of 28, and he and Henry Thompson, his one-time brother-in-law, also worked on the tracks. So, if some of the out-of-town guys wanted to "party" Tom could take up a collection and tell them "My cabin, this Saturday night." The Oakland Hells Angels had locked down the meth market there and were trying to lock down the marijuana biz. They had a clubhouse/safehouse in Quincy and a meth lab in Portola. They pretty much owned highway 70. But Henry could have bypassed them by going to Livermore--and that MAY have gotten Dana and Johnny killed. There was a rumor that Johnny and Dana had stolen 10 sheets of blotter acid from the HA clubhouse in Quincy (East Quincy?) and Henry may have traded that for some coke in Livermore. They were dropped off at the Exxon station on the west end of Quincy and Henry's truck was there. Etc etc etc. Henry's sister Alice was friends with Sheila (Alice was invited to the sleepover that night) and Sheila was at their parents house talking to Alice a half hour before the boys were dropped off at the Exxon station. In fact, it may have been more likely that their ride was the one who actually grabbed the blotter acid Saturday morning after partying at the HA clubhouse Friday night.
There were spur lines running through the area around (logging) Camp 18 in the far southwest corner of Plumas County for the lumber companies to ship out their logs. They were torn up and converted to regular roads in the late 70s.

Especially railroad connections that need more than a cursory look-see. I was quite disappointed with the Cabin28 forum-website closeness to new ideas and the nastiness. East Quincy connections with the case scratch my fancy. I was aware of the HA contingent in the Portola area, I had no idea the group had a safe house in the Quincy/East Quincy vicinity. Cross street references, possibly? The Canyon railroad(WP [then]-UP [now], BNSF [now]) provided the perfect opportunity to get stuff 'in' or 'out' of the county. Including East Quincy. A saw mill siding with a few house tracks. Just east of the Keddie terminal. A place to check for info regarding issues with the tracks would be the Railroad Police. Most Roads had their own Police Departments. In today's day and age, the UP police out of Sparks (located at the UP Sparks terminal) would be responsible for the Keddie Wye terminal.

was the Western Pacific Railroad Yard Office at Keddie, Ca. That yard office (presently owned by Union Pacific RR) is still active to this day. 7-10 trains a day going east, west, north pass by that yard office 24/7/365 (1980), more now. In the 1970-80's there were trailers parked on the access road directly behind the Keddie *playhouse* that housed rail employees. Who also patronized the Keddie bar at Keddie, if not for "rails and the locals?" Ya need a quick way into Keddie, hop or take a train. Half of Plumas County working stiffs understood that and the entire PCSO knows it. Why so little interest in the Keddie rail yard? There were more folks working for the railroad between Keddie, Ca., and Portola Ca. than ever lived in Keddie in the late 70's-early 80's. . I just wanted to bump this great post!
