Assuming the "Reno Counselor" in the anonymous interview on Part II remembers the chronology accurately, then he called DOJ the first week of May 1981 and then [Crim and Bradley] (this guy "remembers" EVERYTHING except their names) came to his office for an interview on May 9 (Saturday.) According the handwritten PCSO report, Cheesman called PCSO Monday May 11. AFTER this interview with C and B.
According the reporter who wrote the April 2011 article where he says he SAW C and B's report of their interview with the Reno therapist, THAT report also stated that MARYLIN called Marty's "therapist" and SHE told him Marty committed these murders." I wonder if HER shrink was Cheesman, and she told CHEESMAN that?
Don't tell me Marylin didn't have a shrink. In Plumas (and Lassen) County, that would be Cheesman. But it's also very possible she called the Reno "therapist" because she was accusing Marty long before the end of April.

This was such a good thought Tom had of Cheeseman possibly being Marilyn's therapist. Cheeseman and the Reno counselor were neighbors and apparently talked with each other and no doubt had discussed these murders especially if Marilyn was his patient - just a couple weeks after these murders someone from the Vet Center was at the FRC talking about PTSD. There is just little doubt in my mind that when Marty made this undocumented "confession" that the Reno counselor did that "dance" he talked of doing with patients in his outtake - and approached the subject with Marty.

What's funny is everyone taking mardes confession as indisputable evidence. All the investigators were supposedly on the take, yet the one person who should have had "copious" notes, chose not to take any? But what really did it for me... marde could have said he smothered tina, stabbed her, fed her to piranhas anything would have made me consider him (or counselor) telling the truth. But no, he claims to have killed her with a hammer. You don't bludgeon someone to death with a hammer on their torso. He was aware from the get go hammers had been used on the others heads, he had no way of knowing that Tina's skull would be found in tact. The only worth in this confession is to show he had no idea how Tina died.

I am with you 1000% Snoho!!! Convenient how that is never mentioned. People only hear how Marde confessed and removed Tina from the scene incapacitated. The most important part is left out, the details of his supposed confession do not match Tina's autopsy results.

I was looking into what it would take to obtain phsyc reports on a deceased person (re philip) and realized mardes therapist violated hippa laws big time appearing on Josh's doc...unless someone from his family got them released, which seems impropable. Hmmmm

True Snoho but I think there is a huge misunderstanding here because Marty’s “therapist” was actually a counselor in a Vet Center in Reno - not to be confused with a therapist in the VA Hospital in Reno.
The Vet Center program was approved by Congress in 1979 so these centers had just started popping up and the Reno center had just opened up in March 1981 and it’s mission was to help Vets get readjusted to civilian life and to help them apply for various programs.
Appointments were not necessary so a Vet could just walk in off the street and talk to someone or they could walk in, sit down, have coffee and talk with other Vets. Their desire was to be very informal and free from as much red tape as possible (their words not mine).
So I’m gonna guess if someone had an “appointment” the counselor might have taken notes but certainly not if they phoned in or walked in off the street. I also have no idea how qualified these counselors had to be when these centers first opened up. I do know in March 1981 this Reno Center preferred the counselor be a Vet themselves.

And, a lot has been said about when & how Marty & Bo met. Marilyn said Marty went away to the VA for some mental health treatments. I suppose its possible Marty was inpatient at a seperate VA hospital and then went to this outpatient center for his weekly visits. Everyone just assumed Marty & Bo met during an inpatient stay. There were no records of Bo having such a stay so they must be lying on how they met.... Well, most likely Marty & Bo did meet as they said. Just at the outpatient Vet Center in Reno. Bo may have been a client as well. He and Marty strike up conversations while having coffee in the waiting area. Discussions of lucrative scams Bo makes a living from. Marty is out of his job as a cook at the Keddie restaurant by this time and they make plans to work together. Bo returns to Keddie with Marty after one of his weekly sessions & they plan to make some quick easy money. Who knows when Bo actually came to Keddie with Marty, but their scams were already in the works and being noticed by April 1, 1981, according to the article/notice published in the FRB at the time. They probably had plans to get out of town asap because of that as well.

kmik - thanks for that clarification! He was most likely a peer counselor... which typically requires a certification after completing and passing a training program. Peer counselors typically come from backgrounds that help counselors/ clients identify with each other.

Yes Ramen just someone to talk to these Vets who could sympathize and offer help and yes Hope I believe Marty could have gone to the VA hospital and they hooked him up with the center OR if Bo was already living (as claimed) in Reno they could have met up at the Vet Center (maybe that’s where Dee Lake took him since he would have known about the center opening) and that’s where Bo invited Marty to join the scams since they were both carnies and Vets they had a lot in common. That FRB article ran a week before the murders
