If you have a proposed solution to the 13-character "My name is" cipher, post it here! I propose one possible decryption, based on the decrypted 408 cipher, is ROBERT SMITH II.

How do you get Robert Smith II by using the 408?

A long time ago, discarding the first and last three characters in the string, I got Solomon. See i.imgur.com/BsMwPBX.jpgAnd I believe I may have got maybe a few other similar ones, but, Solomon is the only one that I can definitely remember. Attachments:

How do you get Robert Smith II by using the 408? I believe Mr. Horan was kidding.

Pete, et al:
Oh no, I'm not kidding. You can get Robert Smith II from the "my name is" cipher. But it's far from conclusive. There is ZERO doubt that the 17-character "anagram" at the end of the 408 yields "ROBEPT E. SMITH THE II" Does that all by itself prove Graysmith (real name Robert G Smith II) created the 408? No. But it's miiiiiiiiiiiighty funny HE never noticed such an astounding "coincidence."
While we are on the subject, there was invisible ink (cerous oxalate) on the "my name is" letter. The ninhydrin washed most of it away. But an uppercase A is still visible, in the distinctive Zodiac handprinting.

I apologize if its not the right thread, but, I'm of the opinion that the ciphers and letters were just distractions and will not yield any evidence with exception to fingerprints or DNA. And that isn't going to happen.

If you are uncertain of an answer to a problem, it seldom hurts to make an educated guess. It stands to reason that if we already know who the author is, we can reverse engineer the cipher, the working backwards heuristic.

By the way, the "circled 8s" are definitely bulls horns--but not cattle. Water buffalo. Snook was in the Philippine Scouts (12th Infantry Division.) Their shoulder patch was a water buffalo ("caraboo") head with horns. Not "taurus." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_ScoutsAnd his middle name was Ken. Harold Kenneth Snook, Jr.

I'm not sure. Though I can see exactly what you mean. However, given the use of Greek characters, I think it MIGHT be an emphasized theta and perhaps even the odd double hook " J " may actually be an upside down upsilon. Could the " M " be a sigma as well ? But I must ask, is there a specific reason you think the " 8 " is definitely a symbol for the Philippine Scouts, other than the resemblance ?

Spoiler alert: I have found, with zero doubt, the true source of ALL the special symbols used in the "Zodiac" ciphers. Soon, all will be revealed.
