In the prevailing theory, it is claimed Sheila masterminded the murder of her family. She should have been there that night but at the last moment "chickened out" & stayed at the Seabolts. This is all speculation.
In fact, she had asked her friend Alice to have a sleepover at 28 that Fri and Saturday night. This is what Alice and her mother told LE. Why would she be inviting friends to sleepover if she had planned to have her family murdered that night!?!?
Statement from Alice's mother:

Statement from Alice's mother:
While talking with Henry's mother outside, she told me that her daughter, Alice, was supposed to spend the night at the Sharp's house with the oldest Sharp girl the night of the homicide, but something happened and she couldn't make it. Alice was contacted earlier, according to the mother
Alice's statement:
7-8-81, I contacted Alice to question her about the above information. Alice told me that Sheila stopped by her house on Lee Road, on Saturday, 4-11-81, while her (Sheila's) mother was visiting with the Meeks family. While there Sheila asked Alice to spend the night with her and they they would have a party and invite their mutual friend Kim M. and maybe some other people. Alice had to babysit that night so she couldn't spend the night with Sheila. Sheila spent a short time visiting at Alice's house that day and then left and Alice said she doesn't remember seeing her again after that.
I asked Alice how Sheila appeared that day and Alice said that there was nothing different other than that she kept looking out the window. Alice thought it was probably because she was waiting for her mother to pick her up. Alice said that Sheila had asked her to spend the night at the Sharp house on the day before (Friday) also, but Alice couldn't then either because her mother told her she couldn't.
Alice did not see Johnny or Dana Saturday but did see them the day before on Friday. She said they were walking on Main Street and she thought they were headed toward the Meeks residence.
I asked Alice how well-aquainted she was with the Sharps and she said she was good friends with Sheila and knew Johnny pretty well. She said that the families were not close, however, and her mother did not know the Sharps. She further stated that Henry, her brother, had met Sheila and Johnny, but was not good friends with them.
Alice could think of nothing the Sharps or Dana said or did that would indicate that someone was going to kill them.
I asked Alice about a man that approached her shortly after the homicides on a bicycle and asked her about the killings. She told me that shortly after the killings, a WMA with light color hair, was watching her and her friend Kim by the shopping center near the liquor store in East Quincy. He came up to them and asked them "Did you hear about the killings in Keddie?" She said yes and he said, "Have they got a suspect yet?" Alice said not that she knew of and he said, "Good." The WMA then rode off on a yellow 10-speed bike. They saw the same man later (in a day or two) and he started toward them again but Alice had an uneasy feeling about him, so they avoided him by running away.
