When I was growing up, (Johnny S was my same age) we had a thing called Police Athletic League (PALs) that taught boxing and similar skills to kids who maybe needed some help staying busy after school. I never attended, but my general understanding was their emphasis was on at-risk boys from (fatherless homes, impoverished) situations that made things like organized sports and music lessons difficult. They had a clubhouse near the high school, and officers would coach in their off-hours. I think judges may also have been willing to cut kids some slack in juvenile court if they showed a willingness to participate. J&D may have been improving their situations by agreeing to go. (Although I don't think I've seen anything about J being in trouble with the cops, just school fights, etc. right?)

They may have been enrolled in a class but I’m thinking Dana was just getting a lesson whenever he showed up at Mikes house (did Mike live close to the Dorris home) and maybe Johnny got a lesson or two if he was tagging along with Dana.

According to the 81 phone book Mike lived on Bell Ln, pretty much a 2 mile straight shot down Quincy Junction Road from the Dorris's (who lived right next to the high school). Oddly though, Mike's address is also listed for 2 companies. C&M Trucking and Clover Logging. Maybe he was renting a room from a trucker/logger? I can't find too much on those companies. Maybe it's time to renew my newspapers.com subscription.

I posted some old forum posts here: zodiackillerhoax1986.freeforums.net/thread/220/notes-backHad planned on posting them here as a lot of the posts are from people that knew Johnny & Dana. However, multiple topics were discussed within those threads & I decided to post them in our "Notes from the Wayback " to make it easier.

Here's DT's list. I don't know what it meant to him but here's my take: 1. He had lived Cabin 28 at some point (maybe he wondered if the killers thought he still lived there) Not sure if there is a timeline where this ought to go, but whoever was living in 28 prior to Sue had a moving sale on Oct. 12 1980. Too bad no phone for reverse lookup. Attachments:

Wow thanks for that little nugget! So IF this was Doug Thomas (I'd have to look up when he divorced Judy and when he married Kathleen?) He could only have lived there at the same time as Marty for about 3 months (moving sale was Oct. 12, 1980 so certainly he was already living somewhere else when he sold his belongings?).
Marilyn never mentioned Doug living in 28 when they lived in Keddie or maybe she had no clue who lived in 28 because they were not friends with him. Little doubt that Marty thought his being chauffered in Doug's car while being questioned about the murders equaled him being friends with the Sheriff - little doubt.
Jr, when did you say that Doug was listed in the phonebook as living in 28? Last half of '80 or '81?

Jr, when did you say that Doug was listed in the phonebook as living in 28? Last half of '80 or '81? You're thinking of Henry Thompson Jr. He was listed in Cabin 13 in the July '82 book (I might have misspoke and said '81 earlier). Gamberg appears, but he was off the force at the time. Surprisingly, DT appears in the '81 book as living on Oak St. in Quincy at the time. Close to downtown. Do we know how Gary (or was it the Albins) found tenants for the cabins? I've been going through the For Rent section in the FRB and there is not a single listing for vacancies. Was it all just word of mouth? Did Gary know DT? Seems like the big Mollath money moved back to Oakland well before DT showed up. Did Marty introduce them or vice versa?

Replying to myself, but FYI, for search purposes Henry Thompson Jr is actually William Henry Thompson Jr. LE is sloppy on names.

I agree absolutely with what he's saying. The joke was in small towns the only thing to do is fight, f**k, and get F**cked up. Another past time for teens was to make "bunk" LSD. Seemed pretty dangerous to me, but the statement of micro dots being made in keddie reminded me of this. It's colorless, odorless, and its not like a buyer can sample it. Now that I've got to thinking about it, it's a wonder more people in my area weren't beaten half to death.

Seems like alot of people have claimed there wasn't much of a drug problem, like not a problem because everyone had them? April '87 Chester Teen attempts suicide will on LSD, LSD laced decals were being passed around his school. Feb. 1979 "Bad" acid is being circulated Quincy high, sending at least to teens to the hospital. Sheriffs set up a tip line and offer reward. January '73 Randy Fortner charged with selling LSD, warrent issued for another selling LSD ,pot, cocaine. Montgomery Porter of Quincy felony sell of LSD. Orlando Lee, Cheryl and dan ALvey charged with having narcotics while in jail. Duane and Tina Broder Possession inc LSD, assualt of afficer. 1979 secret witness Program takes out 1/4 page ad $400 dollars for tips leading to conviction of LSD dealers. 1982 raid on a major and sophisticated meth lab by courthouse in Quincy. I'll come back and edit later with all the familiar names who were busted.
