This is from an article in The Feather River Bulletin on May 13, 1987. Don Stoy is being interviewed:
Here is the Timeline entry re: new fingerprint technology:
march 10, 1986
DOJ reports a new process for developing partial prints using laser. The bloody print from the scene was enhanced so suspects’ names should be resubmitted for comparison
According to the newspaper clipping "Of the many fingerprints lifted from the scene, there are still some that haven't been ruled out as the killers."
This article was written 1 year after PCSO was informed of the advances in fingerprint processing. My takeaway is that PCSO collected fingerprints from the scene that did not belong to the victims. And it states clear as day some haven't been ruled out as the killer's. So what's the status on these fingerprints now, its been 34 years since that article was written. And what about the 200 pieces of evidence always mentioned? Why is the real evidence never discussed?
F is for fingerprints, way back in the early days of this case, 2006-2008, it was posted the only nonfamily member fingerprints found in the cabin belonged to people who had previously been in the cabin. Meeks, Henry & Phillip.
In addition, we have this post from Admin Horan, whom I do believe is a reliable source:
This is what I have found in the the files, plus what I've been able to beat out of Gamberg, in a nutshell: 1. Justin's DNA was found on the sticky side of the tape around Sue's gag. I'd say police found his fingerprints there right away, and that's one reason he changed his story during his second "hypnosis" session. NO ONE else's fingerprints were found on that tape. 2. Several bloody fingerprints were found, but were too smudged for comparison purposes, except for the one found several days later on the post at the bottom of the backdoor stairs. (That one did NOT belong to Marty or Bo.) But they were clear enough to prove that none of them were made by "gloves." 3. The only "outsider" fingerprints found belonged to various Meeks brothers, their adopted cousin Philip "Chief" Shearer (who also confessed to police, by the way) and [apparently] Henry Thompson. Each of them came up with witnesses who said they had been in Cabin 28 recently, but still...4. The killers did not wear gloves, yet neither Marty's nor Bo's fingerprints were found anywhere. Just fingerprints belonging to other good suspects
And another post re: fingerprints from a reliable former poster:
Jan 29 '16 Marty's fingerprints were not located at the crime scene anywhere. I have had this confirmed by the DOJ.

Just to add, there were multiple fingerprints found around the scene that did not match anyone who had been arrested and fingerprinted in Plumas and Butte counties up to April 12th, 1981.
Fingerprint data was sent to Quantico and the DOJ, and no matches came up there either.
In relation to Marty, his fingerprints were taken shortly after the murders and just before he left, when he was arrested for causing a disturbance in public (or something of that nature) and thrown into lockup (hence the W.M. story we have all heard). They were compared and were not the same.

All fingerprint evidence was retested in 1989 or 1990 after advances in fingerprinting allowed them to better test partial prints.
In 1999, the FBI launched IAFIS. At some point thereafter, the data was entered into it.
I threw Henry in here because I've been lucky getting some of my most burning questions answered this, especially about philip. Drove me nuts about his prints, and now we have an explanation. Meeks were easily explained, now on to Henry! We know he was familiar with the cabin, having visited before the Sharps moved in. Where were his prints found? When, exactly were his prints taken? It would be great to know where all prints were pulled. The top of tv, the backporch? Impressive to get a print from such a textured surface
My bad, I saw the list of prints resubmitted it was karl k and 2 others. I saw posts saying Henry's were found by nothing concrete. I'm sure his were taken (not sure if matched). He was asked if he'd ever been in 28, said not while the Sharps lived there but he'd been there during the time his bro in law lived there.
