I don't want to say too much right now because it all might fall apart, but I will doing another Bronx walk and talk interview next weekend. But instead of going out alone, I will be joined by a very well known character in The Ultimate Evil. DOn't want to say too much but let's just say this.....he's Ex -NYPD Detective and played a large role in Maury's investigation. Again, it all might fall apart, but just got off the phone with him now and he's ready, steady, go!!
I want to crowdsource some questions from you guys. Let me know what you'd like to ask an ex NYPD Detective who worked directly with Maury (without going into Process la-la land, let's keep it local). I will definitely be watching this thread.

I bumped an old Craig Glassman thread earlier today and, in it, I wrote the following about the Suriani/Esau shooting site and what transpired just moments earlier before the couple pulled into the parking spot on the Hutchinson River Parkway service road.
I wonder if this ex-NYPD source could confirm and/or expand upon it. Thanks!
Here's what I wrote originally:
"What always bothered me about the Esau/Suriani murders is the timing and location of the cops prior to the attack.
These shootings take place at 3:00 in the morning on Sunday April 17th on the service road of the Hutchinson River Parkway.
The cops are parked across from 1873 Hutchinson River Parkway. They are the detectives assigned to the Donna Lauria murder/Jody Valenti shooting. Valenti's residence is only a half block away from this location - visible. A third cop - a sergeant working for Bronx Sex Crimes unit and ending his shift, runs into them at this location and the three supposedly are just chatting and socializing for 45 minutes until around 2:45 am. All three cops leave the location at this time.
Alexander Esau and Valentina Suriani pull into a parking spot (across from 1878 Hutchinson River Parkway), seemingly just a few feet from where the cops were just parked, sometime between 2:45 am and 3:00 am. At 3:00 am the shootings/murders occur.
The police claim they had more than 200 stakeouts nightly by this time handling the 44 Caliber Killer case (it wasn't yet defined as "Son of Sam" - that changed that April morning)
It's plausible that the detectives would be in the area, because they were assigned to the Lauria/Valenti case and a main victim lived on that block.
What needs to be looked into was if this was a routine thing they did nightly/weekly on that block? It had been 8 and a half months since the Lauria/Valenti shootings.
Cops are staking out the area, and then hang around for an extra 45 minutes to BS and then less than 15 minutes later, at 3:00 in the morning on a Sunday, a double murder occurs involving a case the whole NYPD is focused on in the EXACT SAME SPOT???"

Definitely something to persue. I will formulate a question based on this info. Thanks Omega! One of the reasons I wanted to start my series was to crowdsource the information and also to make it an interactive series with SOS fans. I'm glad that is starting to happen. Since we may only have this one opportunity, please just lay it on the line. What exactly are your suspicions here? It's ok to speculate and offer conjecture. That is the whole point. But knowing exactly what you want to find out (I mean deeper than just the question itself) would be very helpful to me. |

I guess the main thing is if this was a routine thing, would detectives be surveilling Jody Valenti's home at around 2:00 - 3:00 am on a Sunday morning, 8 and half months after she was shot? Was this done on a nightly basis? Again, the NYPD knows they are dealing with a serial killer, but the "Son of Sam" hasn't been "born".....yet (that would change that morning)
It seems like a helluva coincidence that the cops would be on that block, at that time in the early morning hours and, within minutes after leaving, two of the most integral murders of the 44 caliber case would go down and the letter that gave birth to the phrase/name "Son of Sam" would be left at the scene.
My original inquiry was in regards to a question I posed to Professor Horan - Who did he think wrote the Son of Sam letters? His speculation was it may have been written by cops for cops, and that the undercover cops, who were parked on the block right before Esau/Suriani pulled into almost the exact same parking space, wasn't a coincidence. Yes, it is 1878 for sure. Your question is a great one, and as I was reading it I thought to myself "did the cops drop the letter?" And then you wrote of that very theory. My attitude is anything is possible so I will definitely address this question with the good Detective (who shall remain nameless for now). |

Along the lines of the thought"did the cops drop the letter",has it ever been established if ,"Peter Shane" was a Yonkers cop or was he NYPD?To me his identity has always seemed very important to the case,especially as to possible scenarios,such as this.Just wondering!

Did Terry ever trace any of this back to Nugan Hand?
Neither Nugan Hand nor A. Michael Pascal (or a corresponding pseudonym) was ever mentioned in "The Ultimate Evil"
The good Professor has teased about Nugan Hand for over a year now.
Supposedly, Nugan Hand is going to be the jump start for The Professor's new YouTube channel/series in the upcoming weeks. I'm in a wait and see pattern as to how this develops.
All I can say is, I am hoping that this is more than Donna Lauria (and her mother) working in the health care industry, Christine Freund working at a Wall Street firm and A. Michael Pascal as an expert in the security field who wrote a book on hospital security procedures. .
I definitely believe that there were motives behind the Lauria and Freund murders and these were directed "hits"
I'm keeping an open mind, but I definitely want to see dots connected and "concrete" evidence presented, outside of the occupational affiliations, that possibly involve heroin smuggling through blood supply transports. |

No one was making any accusations. I just wanted to be perfectly clear as to my intentions in all this. I am mainly sticking to the local angles and leaving all the nugan hand/heroin/citibank stuff for others to persue. It' s just not my thing. I am lucky enough to be local to the story and when I interview people it's going to mainly be for the local flavor. I don't wish to squander any potential good will by going down what I personally believe to be cool topics, but investigative dead ends. There are actual members of the 22 disciples still alive, so my focus is on them. |

FOr the record, I will be asking him all about connections between victims and whether any of the victims were indeed "hits." Perhaps there will be some answers some other researchers are seeking.
