Well, if I could PROVE Snook met Graysmith BEFORE 1969, that would be fantastic. The best opportunity was probably 1952-54, when Snook was an officer stationed at Lowry AFB Denver. But we have not been able to prove that Lt Col Robert Gray Smith Sr was stationed there at the same time.
Snook was pretty gung-ho about his job, but the funny thing is, he never made Sgt. He never made corporal in the Army, in spite of four bronze stars and a purple heart, and he couldn't make captain in the Air Force, either. His promotion review stated that he was not considered leadership material, and for another thing, was too chummy with the enlisted men (MP's) under his command. An interview in the Napa paper when he retired gives one the impression he was a tad bitter about his years with NCSO.
According the "Zodiac Killer" theory, the bloody pieces of Stine's shirt prove once and for all that the Author of the letters WAS the murderer. IF so, it's awfully funny that Hal Snook, whose handprinting perfectly matches the first few letters, also looked EXACTLY like the composite sketch of the shooter, right down to the "droopy" left eye and "widow's peak" hairline.

Thanks for the interesting information about Snook's military career and Napa. That would explain why he seemingly sat on his hands while the drug trade began and flourished on his watch. Another possibility is that he was in involved in the drug trade before he joined the Napa County Sheriff's Department or after he joined some of his former military comrades in arms, some of whom may have joined Air America (think Air Force, Korean War) or the C.i.A. (think Army, WWII) and were involved in smuggling heroin into California (think Los Angeles and the reporter Webb), contacted him while he was a Deputy Sheriff and helped him set up the drug operation in Napa. That also might explain the theories about Tony Po involvement. My dad who was on Mindanao while Snook was, made it to Tech Sergeant and at one time he was an MP - the thought makes me cringe. I always use the K.I.S.H. principal (Keep It Simple Horan - is sh a sibilant or is s a sibilant in English?).
Maybe, the Post Office picked up mail around San Francisco, brought it back to the Main Post, and thereat put on the San Francisco post mark. If so, that might better explain the timing between each of the Zodiac murders and the receipt of the 4 Snook/Zodiac letters. Snook would not have had to drive all to way to the city on his time off. As I recall, the interval between Stine's murder and that letter right after was very brief. Maybe that time, Snook had to prove that the Zodiac and the letter were in the city. Snook probably received or saw mail at the Napa County Sheriff's Department and noticed that some outlying communities received the San Francisco post mark. In that case, he would have known that he didn't have to drive all the way to the city after the murders or trust one of his police snitches or big time criminal associates in the Napa to deliver them. Also, he could have mailed the earlier letters with their envelopes to Greysmith to drop in the mail box. Keith Power might have some pictures of Greysmith and Snook at a party; anyone who claims to have known Greysmith in San Francisco may have pictures. You could put an add in The Chronical asking, but, that might be too snarky.
I'm a big time fan of Erving Goffman's 1969 book STRATEGIC INTERACTION. Wouldn't it be quite a coincidence if Power, Greysmith, and or Snook just happened to have read around the time of the big police meeting about the Stine murder and Snook and Power dropped out of active participation in Zodiac? Goffman wrote in the book that he spy's and game theorists hadn't yet wrapped their heads around planted evidence. Snook apparently had.

According the postmarks, the bulk of the "Zodiac" letters and cards were apparently dropped into mailboxes in the area around--brace yerself--the Chronicle.
Thanks for the tip about the book! We have found a book on forgery that Hal used as a forensics expert and teacher. One of the methods described for disguising handwriting was to write upside down--just like "Zodiac" did. We also found the crypto books he studied as part of his training in WWII. I will share all of that in the not too distant future.
There are no surviving records of all the candidates, but Hal prrrrrooooobably trained with the Alamo Scouts. There is one Alamo Scout who looked so much like Hal they could pass for each other. But that guy has been firmly identified by the son of one of the Alamo Scouts as being someone else (I don't remember the name offhand.)
Oh, and remember--the best theory is the "simplest" theory that incorporates ALL THE FACTS. And nothing but facts. The "what" of this whole brouhaha is simple. And clear. I've proven that six ways for Sunday. But, WHY?
For example: The handprinting on the first four letters (three on July 31; one on October 13) all match Snook to a "T." To coin a phrase. Other letters seem to be careful attempts to MIMIC the "genuine" Snook letters. But the handprinting on the "cyphers" is completely--and obviously--different. It matches the Belli letter of December 20, but NOT the letters Snook definitely wrote. Why? And why make it OBVIOUS? From the get-go? Supposedly, the existence of "The Zodiac" himself had already been "authenticated." So, there was no need to "prove this" with a bloody piece of a victim's shirt. The funny thing is, those three pieces were mailed along with ALL THREE different handprintings. That is, the sole purpose really seems to be to "authenticate" those three DIFFERENT handprintings. Not the existence of "The Zodiac."
Why? What would happen if Dear Editor (or the police, or whoever) DIDN'T believe in the "authenticity" of those letters and cryptograms that didn't match "his" handprinting? I mean, if "he" was worried that [whoever] might think more than one person was involved, then why make it obvious from the get-go that more than one person was creating these communications? See? First, "he" makes it obvious that "he" is more than one person. Then, "he" [supposedly] goes out and murders a cab driver (not a couple on a so-called "lovers' lane") JUST TO PROVE that ALL the "right hands" really do know what the "left hands" are doing.
Why? And if I'm right, that "he" obtained those three pieces of bloody shirt some other way, and goody gumdrops for "him" if he did, that still doesn't explain WHY. Why do ANY of it? Why go to all the fuss and bother and risk of writing these inane letters and "cryptograms" AT ALL?
I've nailed "what." No one, NO ONE has put a dent in my What. i have shown WHAT happened. Very simply and very completely. We can put that baby to bed.
But I'll be damned to spend eternity listening to a bad parody of The Mikado if I can explain WHY.

Why? That's going to be tough to answer. By tough I mean more than 5 seconds after reading what you wrote about above. So, here's the "WHY of it all: 1) "Most people myself included perform better in front of others, as you state: 2) "THREE different hand printings," and 3) "the bulk of the `Zodiac' letters and cards were apparently dropped into mailboxes in the area around--brace yeself--the Chronicle". From what you have just written maybe Snook was showing off for Power and Greysmith and they were doing the same for the others. It was a three-way love fest in which they may not have even met. Just 3 twisted fucks.

this is very interesting - what precisely can be provided to definitely disculpate Zayed? if just one thing can be offered that removes him from the picture, then Snook goes to the top of the list, but can it be done ?

Speaking of stupid, you obviously didn't even read the book you're "commenting" about. Shit for brains.

Yes, that's exactly what you have. Rarely are you remotely accurate, or concise. And why would I read your moronic drivel when your core argument is ridiculous and vapid? Your writng on this "forum" shows haw insane your "theories" are, and a sideways glance at how others familiar with Zodiac have completely shot down your impossible implausibles tells most to avoid your feeble-brained ideas. As all the cases you claim to be expert in, you claim all of them were poorly handled and your the only one in the room smart enough to figure them out? Sorry, Charlie, but Graysmith is Bright Boy compared to you.
And I thought insults were below you. Can't be, as your ideas alone are insulting to anyone with an IQ above safe fridge temp.

Yeah. That's why no one has proven ONE single, solitary sentence of my book wrong in five plus years. But, that doesn't stop shit for brains Tom Voigt from sneaking around this website under fake names trying to claim it's "ridiculous," "impossible," "implausible," "completely shot down," blah, blah, blah. When all you do, shit for brains--I mean, Voigt--I mean, shit for brains--is prove that you CAN'T prove one single solitary sentence wrong.
All ANYBODY has to do is QUOTE one, single, solitary sentence or paragraph from my book and SHOW that it's wrong with EVIDENCE and not horseshit. Not the whole book. Just ONE thing. One. How hard is that? Apparently, it's "impossible."

Voigt, Voigt, Voigt. I was hoping the medication would have helped. On a happier note, they're doing wonders with lobotomies, now. I've taken the liberty of making you a pre-op appointment. I hear they give you a lollipop when they're done.
Now, back to the comment you "commented on." Like I said, like I've always said, like the stated purpose of this website has always said, all ANYBODY has to do is QUOTE one, single, solitary sentence or paragraph from my book and SHOW that it's wrong with EVIDENCE and not horseshit. Not the whole book. Just ONE thing. One. How hard is that? Apparently, it's "impossible."
But keep ranting and raving and pissing and moaning and crying, shit for brains. I mean, Voigt. I mean, shit for brains. I sweeten my hot cocoa with your tears. And, of course, every time you post another crazy rant about my "personality," all you prove is that you can't prove me wrong.
