Out of all the information we have Steven McKim would come closest to matching the description of one of the suspects that was described by Justin. For some reason he was brought to the attention of the police. Statements made concerning Steve were given by Andy Tidwell, Hildor Hawkinson, Cecil Jones, Banier Heater, Ronald Lingenfelter, Kathy (Martin) McKim, and Steve's mother, all of whom (with the exception of Kathy McKim) are now deceased.
January 1981 Steve M. left a duffel bag and contents and sunglasses with Banier Heater in Spring Garden, three months before the murders.
February 1981 Steve M. and his mother came to California from Illinois to see relation Scott M., who was living in a cabin near Twain. Steve later went to the Reno hospital as he is crazy. Steve does not have a car and he does not drive.
HAWKENSON, HILDOR Sister (Eisenmenger) said he problems w/ "Mountain Blue:", (James Cline), info on McKim, info on girl's body in NV <BRUBAKER>/<CRIM>/ <SHANKS
TIDWELL, ANDY Info on Steve McKim when he returned in Sept., 1981 <CRIM> (Andy Tidwell and Hildor Hawkenson were living togather)
HEATER, BANIER (SR - II) In bar 4/11/81 but saw nothing unusual, McKim stayed at his house in Spring Garden in 6/81, turned in McKim's duffle & coat <CRIM>/<BRUBAKER> (Banier Heater was with family at the Keddie restaurant that night)
JONES, CECIL (DECEASED) Had dark glasses worn by McKim given to him by Ron Lingenfelter, glasses similar to those worn by S/ composite <BRUBAKER>
LINGENFELTER, RONALD Steven McKim dredged with him on Squirrel Creek & stayed with him at the "Heater" house in Spring Garden, contacted later, no new info, lived Elizabeth Town but soon to dredge river
June 13 -17 Ronald L. says Steve M. stayed at his place in Twain on June 13 to the 17th, 1981. Steve wore dark brown or black cowboy boots with a squiggly design on the toes, a fold-up knife and shaded sunglasses with metal frames. <BRUBAKER>/<CRIM>
From Justin's Dream: He had black glasses with gold ring and a gold frame and black and brown lenses. He had a mustache, jean jacket, blue jeans, no belt. Cowboy boots. Black round toe with a squiggly design.
MCKIM, KATHY (MARTIN) Info on Steve McKim, violent & beat her (She married Steve's brother Scott in May 1981)
Tina's body was found April of 1984. Ronald Lingenfelter was living in Forbestown (approximately 14 miles from Feather Falls) in February and May 1984 according to FRB articles. Steve McKim died in Yuba City, CA in 1995 at the age of 35.

(it is obvious from the date that Ronald L was questioned after Steve stayed with him in June and then questioned again later)

(it is obvious from the date on this that Andy was questioned about Steve after Sept. 1981)

(Cecil died in 1987 so somebody took the time to make a note of it on the PON list)
The police were looking at many people - and they should have been. I doubt Crim or Bradley were still wasting their time questioning people (5 months later) just to cover for Marty or Bo. According to info we have Crim and Bradley were still questioning people as of February 1982 - and if I had to guess probably a lot longer than that.

We have a report of Banier Heater saying this Steve, Steve IV "left a duffle bag and contents and sunglasses" with him (prior to April 11) in Spring Garden (about 14 miles SE of Keddie). Since Dana Wingate was planning on spending the night at the Sharp cabin, did he carry a duffle bag with him that day and night? If his diabetes kit was not found, could he have been carrying it inside a duffle bag along with a change of clothes, etc.? If Dana was carrying a duffle bag while he and Johnny hoofed it around Quincy, would they have used it to hide drugs they were either stealing or selling?
