"Unidentified male states to Allen C. that he didn't notice anything unusual at the Sharp residence, except that a truck was parked there. Approximate time: 11:30 - midnight."
Philip S also identified a truck as one of two vehicles driven by the killers. The other being a van.
James Jones (Cabin 11) sees a flat black truck or van park next to the propane tank west of his house. The vehicle is a ’57-58, old paint, rounded shape, medium size half ton with no windows in back. The driver is 27-28, 6’, or taller, slender, with dirty blonde hair. (6-6:30 pm)
The driver of the van parked west of cabin 11 returns and leaves in the van. (6:45-7:00 pm)
Mr. Seabolt sends Tina home at 9:00-9:45. Paula Seabolt sees a van parked across the street from Cabin 28.
A few days after the murders, Sheila and LaRonda are followed by a man in a van. They run into a video store to get away from him.
As a clarification to the True history of Camp 18. Not a Boy Scout camp. Not a Campground. Its relationship to Feather Falls and Camp One. Previous to the town and Mill of Feather Falls, the Hutchinson Lumber Co. was founded in 1922 and logged that entire area of the Sierra first by oxen and skid roads and then by Railway to run the logs to the Hutchinson Mill at Oroville. A network of railways was in place for the transport of the raw logs. The Quincy-La Porte Rd was the old rail-bed for the railway as were many of the road networks above Feather Falls. The town of Feather Falls developed on Lumpkin Ridge as Feather River Pine Mills Inc. circa 1940 after the Hutchinson Mill in Oroville burned down. Earlier, logging was done farther up the mountain and logging camps were established. These tent towns were improved with shacks as the logging spread out and were used as hubs to house and feed the workers. Known as skid towns, because the logs were skidded on skid roads and the cheap shacks were built on skids so they could be moved to the next location. The Main mill was huge at the Feather Falls site. The actual Feather Falls (waterfall, 410' high) is approx 4-7 miles north and the original name of the town of Feather Falls was Mooretown, after its founder John S. Moore. Camp 18 was a logging camp named as such because it was 18 miles by skid road above the mill. Likewise Camp One. As the area became logged-out, Camp 18 was MOVED by skidding the buildings down to the Mill Site of Feather Falls town as well as the buildings of Camp One, mostly simple 2-3 room single-wall but well-built "shacks". These migrated buildings were then reassembled, put on pier foundations, refurbished with yards, interiors, some garages, fencing, and all received the standard coat of barn red on their board and bat exteriors. The interiors were all paneled with knotty pine and shellac. The housing and community for the mill-workers occupied the opposite side of Lumpkin Rd. from the Mill-site. Included at the new company town was a Large rec hall-auditorium, a separate office building for management, a library, Company store, Post office, Gas station with a hoist, Fire station, church, large sports field w a baseball diamond, an apple "test" orchard, laid out gravel streets, and an elementary school that is still operating, a small hospital consisting of a very large house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, large front room with brick fireplace, and knotty-pine interior paneling throughout, and a large yard. I rented that house for $40 mo. in Jan.1970. My first daughter was born there as a home birth in February. The previous resident was the famous head shop owner Bill Miller, who ran for Mayor of Berkeley in '67, and ran the Steppenwolf Bar on San Pablo. The mill ceased operations in approx '66. It was up for sale by the owner, Georgia-Pacific, later to become Louisiana-Pacific. During my stay there, the mill was being torn down but the town remained and the houses rented for $30-40/mo. The secret was, many Berkeley and Bay-area folks were spilling out into the rural areas at that time and they migrated to many of these small mountain towns such as Feather Falls, Brownsville, and Forbestown. the railway was abandoned and torn out above the new mill site and they became Forest Service roads and used for logging operations by remote crews and the logs transported by trucks down the mountain into Oroville. So, Feather Falls was comprised of the reincarnated Camp 1 and Camp 18 structures, the sites becoming nothing but razed patches after the town was moved down the mountain. That explains the bottle dump, the barren ground referred to as Camp 18, and the reason for the existence of the town of Feather Falls, since bulldozed completely in approx '96. I have returned to the site since and walked atop the old concrete slabs and remaining memories and stood on the old gas station, the store, and phone booth pads. So Camp 18 is not a camp. It is a reference point. A wide spot in the road. No standing bit of history existed there in '70 or today. That is why I questioned the ability of the perps to place the Tina remains there. No one knows anything about it. It is near the FS road that runs up to Little Grass Valley Reservoir(no relation to Grass Valley), Hartmann Bar(no bar), Fall River Crossing, Golden Trout Crossing, and Walters mine. But the connection does exist for the perps I identify as murderers Steven Howard and Gary Mollath because of the La Porte Rd. to Meadow Valley FS Rd. and its turnoff to Feather Falls and its bypass of the old site of Camp 18. Gary Mollath would not know of the area but Steven Howard would due to his knowledge of the back road from La Porte, his dumping of the remains of his sister Kathy along that route, his drug hookup with Mollath at the other end of the La Porte Rd at MV and Quincy to Keddie, their sighting together in Mollath's Green '55 Chevy p.u. in Keddie before the murders, the murders committed by each separately, (Kathy, Lynette) and together (Sharps), both, and therefore, the abduction of Tina Sharp back towards the La Porte Rd., their immediate disappearance from Keddie, and Howard's reported freakout after the news bulletin, rushing out of the house with a previously hidden duffel bag, and therefore to the same dumping ground route over back roads to Camp 18. These are the only two characters that fit the bill. Behold! Camp 18.
Margaret Lewis
Lived Keddie. Reported seeing Walke and another male talking about mugging a guy, saying they should 'do it the way it was done in Keddie'. She also reported that Walke had 3-4 possible cuts on back of his hands.
Henry's 13-year-old sister, Henry's mother mentioned that Alice was supposed to spend the night at the Sharp residence the night they were killed.
7-8-81, I contacted Alice to question her about the above information. Alice told me that Sheila stopped by her house on Lee Road, on Saturday, 4-11-81, while her (Sheila's) mother was visiting with the Meeks family. While there Sheila asked Alice to spend the night with her and they they would have a party and invite their mutual friend Kim M. and maybe some other people. Alice had to babysit that night so she couldn't spend the night with Sheila. Sheila spent a short time visiting at Alice's house that day and then left and Alice said she doesn't remember seeing her again after that.
I asked Alice how Sheila appeared that day and Alice said that there was nothing different other than that she kept looking out the window. Alice thought it was probably because she was waiting for her mother to pick her up. Alice said that Sheila had asked her to spend the night at the Sharp house on the day before (Friday) also, but Alice couldn't then either because her mother told her she couldn't.
Alice did not see Johnny or Dana Saturday but did see them the day before on Friday. She said they were walking on Main Street and she thought they were headed toward the Meeks residence.
I asked Alice how well-aquainted she was with the Sharps and she said she was good friends with Sheila and knew Johnny pretty well. She said that the families were not close, however, and her mother did not know the Sharps. She further stated that Henry, her brother, had met Sheila and Johnny, but was not good friends with them.
Alice could think of nothing the Sharps or Dana said or did that would indicate that someone was going to kill them.
I asked Alice about a man that approached her shortly after the homicides on a bicycle and asked her about the killings. She told me that shortly after the killings, a WMA with light color hair, was watching her and her friend Kim by the shopping center near the liquor store in East Quincy. He came up to them and asked them "Did you hear about the killings in Keddie?" She said yes and he said, "Have they got a suspect yet?" Alice said not that she knew of and he said, "Good." The WMA then rode off on a yellow 10-speed bike. They saw the same man later (in a day or two) and he started toward them again but Alice had an uneasy feeling about him, so they avoided him by running away.
10-16-81, approx. 1130 hr, I received a call from an adult male subject that refused to give his identity at this time.
The caller said he had information concerning the Keddie homicide. He then told me that a friend of his told him the day before yesterday (10-14-81) that he had been drinking with a railroad worker about a week ago and this railroad worker said that he was at the Keddie Murders when it happened. The caller went on to tell me what his friend told him.
That this railroad worker (who the S/O has given a polygraph examination concerning this case) was in Livermore and that another man named Larry or Jerry or Garry or related name gave the railroad worker a ride to Keddie from Livermore the night of the murders. The two went to Tom S.'s house in Keddie where there was a party going on involving the use of LSD. The railroad worker and the subject that gave him the ride then went to the Sharp house where they started playing a game with the victims and the subject that gave the railroad worker a ride tied up the victims. The caller said that the informant (drinking buddy of the railroad worker) had no further information except that the railroad worker said it only started out as a game.
The caller said he would identify himself as #974 at this time and would recontact me Tuesday, 10-20-81. I explained the need for his informant to come forward and contact me and "974" said he understood and would try to get him to come in.
"974" told me that his informant said that the railroad worker was very upset and nervous when telling him of the incident. Based on previous supplemental reports on Chuck W. and Henry T., I believe at this time that the railroad worker is Henry T. and the person that gave him a ride back from Livermore is Chuck W.
Request DOJ Agent Crim attempt to locate Kathy G.'s brother, Mark G., for further information on Chuck and Henry's activity and statements while in Livermore the night prior to the homicides. DOJ Crim and Bradley are familiar with above supplements and information concerning Mark G. who spent time with Chuck and Henry when they were in Livermore.
Further action pending recontact of "974."
2-19-82
After receiving several phone calls from "974" reference the information he was receiving from his informant, I arranged a meeting with 974, the informant, DOJ Bradley and myself at Lake Almanor on 2-19-82. Prior to the meeting, 974 met with the informant at the Westwood substation where he taped his own interview with the informant in the presence of a sergeant from Lassen Co. S/O. That tape reveals the same information that 974 said his informant told him. On 2-19-82, we met with the informant at Lake Almanor where I taped an interview with him. In the interview he told us that he used to live with Henry T. in a railroad trailer in Little Valley, CA, shortly after the homicides occurred in Keddie. During that time, Henry confided in him and at one time told him that he went to Livermore on the day before the murders to pick up a friend of his. They (Henry and the friend) returned to Keddie on the night of the homicides and stopped at the Tom S. residence. There was a party at that residence. Henry and his friend left the party and went to the Sharp residence next door. While there, Henry told the informant that his friend went berzerk and started tying up the victims. Henry told the informant that he became scared and left the house.
That was all Henry told informant. Informant felt Henry was telling the truth and felt from his appearance that he was telling informant information to get it off his chest. Informant said Henry appeared very nervous and afraid while he was telling informant the story. I asked informant why Henry would tell him something like that and he said partly because they had been drinking and partly because he needed to confide in someone with the information and he trusted informant because of his religious beliefs.
Informant said that Henry was driving a red Toyota pickup at the time.
On conclusion of the taping, the tape of the interview was given to DOJ Bradley by me to be reproduced into working copies. The originals (both 974's and ours) will be returned to me by Bradley on his next trip to Quincy. [Josh's note: during the filming of Part II, both cassette tapes were sent anonymously to me in the mail].
Informant, although reluctant at first, agreed to be wired and conduct another conference with Henry and if he can get Henry to say the same thing again, will take the information for us. Informant will contact when he has the information.
When I asked informant about Henry taking a polygraph, he informed me that Henry told him that he was requested to take one concerning the homicides but he beat it because prior to taking the test, he went to a hypnotist and was hypnotized to forget the incident. Informant doesn't know who or where.
DOJ Bradley has checked with Sam Lister of DOJ Polygraph section, who stated that above evasive tactic is not possible.
The only hypnotist in the phone book for this area is a Vicki C., in Reno, NV. I called her on 2-23-82 and advised her of the above information and asked her if she has seen anyone from the Keddie area that requested hypnotism of any form since April of 1981. She advised me she does remember a person from the Quincy area that worked for the railroad sometime last year requesting hypnotism. She will check her records and contact me.
2-23-82, approx. 1230 hr, I recontacted Vicki C. by phone and asked her if she came up with any more information on the subject she counciled last year from Quincy. She said he definitely worked for the railroad but she could not remember his name and she couldn't find anyone by the name of Henry T. in her files. She said he was in his late 20s, about 6'0 and thin. Also he had recently separated from his wife and had one or two kids and was hung up on losing them. She had about three or four appointments with him but he did not show up on the last one. That was all she could remember at this time.
I sent her a photograph of Henry for her to look at and let me know if he is the subject she talked with. I also asked her if it were possible to beat a polygraph test by undergoing hypnosis. She assured me it is.
3-5-82, I received a call from 974 in response to my request that he call me.
974 advised me that he is currently back to work with the railroad but has not seen Henry. He also said his back injury is still under investigation by the railroad and they are laying him off again sometime next week. He does not know when or if he will be able to go back to work for them again after that.
I suggested the possibility of using him as an agent to record information from Henry concerning this case by 974 does not think this is possible now because of the lack of possible contact with Henry and also because 974 has had second thoughts about being wired in that it may cause a safety factor for his family. 974 did assure me, however, that if the possibility came up he would notify me.
4-9-82, Agent Bradley and I went to Henry's residence on Lee Road, Quincy, and questioned him regarding the information we received from 974.
Henry said that he may have said what 974 told us because he (Henry) was getting tired of all the kidding and teasing about the Keddie homicide. He said they were calling him "keddie machete" and names like that. So, in retaliation out of anger and to tease back, he may have told 974 or other persons at work that he actually did kill the victims so as to get a response from them. I asked Henry if he didn't think that was a dumb thing to do and he agreed that it was.
Henry still insists that he knows nothing about the murders and took no part in them himself
Fact: Very early on the morning of April 12, 1981, before the murders were discovered, Steven Edward Howard arrived at the home of a family friend, disheveled and agitated, asking to borrow her car or let him spend the night.
Even though she liked Steven and had known him for years, she was a bit afraid of him and refused. He left Quincy thereafter.
Seven years later, the same woman was at the Sacramento home of Steven Howard when an episode of California's Most Wanted began broadcasting an episode dedicated to the Keddie murders.
Howard immediately became visibly upset and left the house. The woman and her sister watched through the window as Steven retrieved a duffel bag from the shed, which he threw into his truck. He then drove off.
Conjecture: Perhaps Howard had nothing to do with the murders. Perhaps it is coincidence that he arrived in the middle of the night, clearly in trouble.
Maybe the episode of CMW reminded him of the unsolved 1973 murder of his little sister Kathy, whose murder was so similar to that of the Sharp/Wingates.
Or, perhaps something else?
What is even more disturbing is that there is only one person I know of who claimed to have seen a truck at the Keddie Store "dumping trash" around 3:30 - 4:00a.m. 4-12-81.
I also wonder why the killer(s) didn't take ALL the evidence with them to Camp 18 (or put it in the woodstove).
Wasn't the store located near the cabin that supposedly had the "acid party"?
Yes. "Five doors south of the store" was what they said about the location of the party, which would have been the adjacent cabins (33, 34?) or those just up the hill on Keddie Avenue. I've wondered the same thing about the why of things, but it doesn't take me anywhere of use.

Who is the person who claimed to have seen the truck dumping trash (if you can say)? I haven't heard about that before. Every day I'm learning something new about this case. I think it might be solved before I learn all there is to know about it. Lol
It was Henry. The brother of the occupants of Cabin 14.

At about 9pm, Dale M dropped Philip off, drunk, at the Methodist church in Quincy.
Sometime thereafter, Philip said he decided to go to the Exxon Mini Mart, where he ran into Johnny & Dana. They were with three men in a 1954 or 1955 Chevy truck (similar to the one Steven Howard drove at the time). He identified one of the men as Marty S, but could not identify the other two.
According to Philip, all six men drove to Keddie together. He said he saw parts of the murders through the window, and at one point hid in Johnny's basement bedroom. He also said he ran to the lounge for help, but couldn't attract anyone's attention. He said that he went back to help Tina, but then left again.
He said he was chased to Gasner airfield, but eventually got away and went back to the church, where he slept. The following morning, when he was asked to leave the church, he told his mother he had witnessed the murders, and seemed to know about them before it was common knowledge.
Strange story of Chuck Walke and Henry Thompson
They are arranged chronologically by date.
1330 hrs. 4-30-81. I contacted Maggie; re: Chuck W. having cut marks on him.
Maggie said that last Saturday night (4-25-81), Susan K. had been in the dorm lounge and had gone out for a few minutes and when she returned at approx. 2130 hrs, Chuck and another guy was with her. Chuck and the other guy talked about some other guy who was supposed to have $1200 on him, and said they should do it the way the thing was done in Keddie. They were supposedly waiting for some guys in the bar, and were also waiting around for some girls that hang around the dorm, but do not live in the dorm--she did not know the names of any of the people, nor could she describe them.
I asked about the cuts on Chuck and she said he had 3-4 cuts, or what appeared to her to be cuts, on the back of his right hand. They were scabbed over and appeared to be old.
Maggie had also mentioned that when Chuck came in with Susie, Susie's sister Margaret, and another girl she thinks was named Tracy was also with them, besides Chuck's friend. Chuck and his friend are tree planters for the USF/S, according to Maggie.
7-1-81, approx. 1400 hr, I contacted Chuck W. at the S/O and questioned him regarding a subject he knows that Richard Meeks said was in front of the Sharp residence the night of the homicide. Subject's first name is supposed to be Steve, according to Meeks and is supposed to be a friend of Chuck's.
Chuck told me that the subject is Steve L. and that Steve told him and Meeks that he was out walking the night of the homicide and had walked past the Sharp house but didn't hear or see anything.
I questioned Chuck as to his whereabouts during the night of the crime and he offered the following information:
On Friday, 4-10-81, he and a friend of his, Henry T., went to Livermore to visit a friend of Chuck's by the name of Kathy G. They drove Henry's red Chevy truck (small model like a luv). They stayed there Friday night and visited with friends. They left Kathy's house Saturday night (4-11-81) around 2330 or 0000hr for Quincy. They arrived at the Keddie turnoff around 0330hr and Henry said he wanted to see a friend in Keddie to see if he was going to work the following Monday (if he was still up). They drove into Keddie and Henry drove by the friend's home and saw that he was not up so he did not stop. Then they came out and Henry took Chuck home.
I asked Chuck if he saw anything in the area unusual and he said he did. He went on to explain that when they approached the Keddie turn off he saw a pickup truck parked in the turn off in front of the old gas station along highway 70. Chuck said that the truck was a solid dark color and was probably around a 1975 model. He couldn't tell what type of truck it was but thought it was a Ford or Chevy. Chuck said that there were two men at the rear of the truck and as they drove by (Chuck on the passenger side) he saw them walking toward the doors to get in the truck. He noticed the driver better than the passenger as the truck was parked in such a position that he could see the driver side. He said the two men could have been putting something in the rear of the truck when he first observed them, but he could not be sure. Chuck said the two men looked similar to the composite drawings he saw in the newspaper in that the hair was about the same as well as the general build and one of them (driver) wore dark glasses. The driver also had a checkered type short sleeve shirt and Levis and possibly boots. He also had a splotch or spot of something on his left arm just below the shoulder and above the elbow. Both men wore short sleeve shirts and the passenger had a mustache.
On the way out of Keddie, Chuck did not see the vehicle or subjects still there. He could offer no further description on the subjects or vehicle at this time but will give it some thought and if he comes up with anything else he will call. He is willing to undergo hypnosis for better recall. Note: Chuck does not drive a vehicle.
7-1-81, approx. 1630 hr, I called Henry T. on the phone and advised him that I had spoken with Chuck earlier this date and that he said they had observed a vehicle and subject at Keddie the night of the homicides while in route back from the Livermore area.
Henry said that they had gone to Livermore to visit friends of Chuck's and that on the way back to Quincy they stopped at Keddie because Henry wanted to see his brother-in-law who lives there. Henry did not know who Chuck's friends were that they visited in Livermore. He said they drove his (Henry's) red 1978 Toyota pick up. They arrived at Keddie around 0400 hr on 4-12-81. Henry was certain that they did not see anyone on Highway 70 around the old service station and they continued into Keddie to his brother-in-law's house where they pulled into the driveway for a few seconds. He noticed that it did not appear that anyone was up so he drove out. On the way out of Keddie he noticed the vehicle that Chuck was talking about and that it was parked facing the street in the driveway next to the Keddie store in front of the garbage bins. Henry also said he was sure the vehicle, a pickup, unknown make, was white or light color. He saw one subject next to the pickup outside. Henry said he thought maybe the subject was dumping garbage. He said they continued out of Keddie and that he took Chuck home and then returned home himself.
I asked Henry who his brother-in-law is and he said Tom S. and that he lived behind the Sharp house. Henry gave me a phone number of [blank] but said his brother-in-law is currently on vacation and would not be home.
I asked Henry if he knew the Sharps or Wingate and he said he went to school with Wingate but he was older than Dana but knew him. He didn't know the Sharps.
I advised Henry that there were some obvious discrepancies in his story as compared to Chuck's story but did not tell him what they were. I further told him that I requested his presence at the S/O to further question him concerning the report. I told him it was important that the discrepancies be resolved now. He said that he had to put a tire on his car and could not make it tonight. I told him I could pick him up and bring him to the S/O and he stated that he had a lot to do tonight. He did agree, however, to meet me at the S/O tomorrow after work around 1400hr.
I attempted to contact Chuck for the same reason, but did not reach him.
I called the phone number Henry gave me for Tom S. but got no answer. Note: Tom S. lives at Cabin 14 Keddie and if he is the brother-in-law, the residence is very close to the Sharp home. In a previous report Tom told investigators that he saw a female doing dishes through the Sharp residence window.
7-1-81, approx. 1800hr, Henry came to the S/O and met with me. I asked him if he had discussed our conversation with Chuck since I talked to him on the phone and Henry told me he hadn't.
I requested that Henry confirm the following discrepancies.
1. I asked him if he saw anyone or any vehicle on highway 70 near the old gas station. He said he did not.
2. I asked him if he saw anyone or any vehicle such as Chuck described in Keddie when they drove in. He said they didn't.
3. I asked him when he did see the vehicle he thought suspicious and he said when they were on their way out of Keddie.
4. I asked him if they had stopped in Keddie and he said they did stop at his brother-in-law's house in the driveway.
5. I asked him what route they took while driving through Keddie. He said they drove toward Quincy on Highway 70, turned off on the Keddie turn off, drove in front of the restaurant and turned left at the end of the restaurant and pulled into Tom S.'s driveway. Backed up out of the driveway and exited Keddie the exact sam way they entered. He said they did not drive around the road in front of the Sharp residence at any time.
6. I asked him where he saw the vehicle. He said parked facing the street in the alley next to the Keddie Store where the garbage bins are, across from the restaurant.
7. I asked him what color the vehicle was and he said it was a light-colored pickup truck.
8. I asked him about any subjects he saw around the pickup and he said he only saw one subject but couldn't tell if it were female or male and could not give a description. He added, however, that Chuck saw two subjects.
9. I asked him to describe the vehicle and he said it was an old beat-up truck around 1965 model. No further description.
Note: the above questions were asked of Henry approx. three times and confirmed by him prior to his knowledge of what Chuck told me.
I told Henry what Chuck told me concerning the above information, which was:
1. The vehicle they saw was at the old abandoned gas station on Highway 70 and they didn't observe any suspicious vehicles in Keddie.
2. They saw the vehicle and subjects on the way into Keddie and the vehicle and subjects were gone on the way out.
3. They did not stop in Keddie but saw the lights out so just drove on by.
4. Chuck said they drove past the Sharp residence and around the block.
5. Chuck said the vehicle was a solid dark color.
I told Henry that Chuck told me that they had discussed the vehicle and the subjects and therefore they should both be talking of the same vehicle and incident. Above was after Henry told me that they hadn't talked about it.
I asked Henry for an explanation for the discrepancies and after several pauses and thought, he stated he could not explain the difference. He added that they had some to drink at a party in a community near Livermore and had gotten pretty drunk there but was not that drunk when they arrived at Keddie. Henry added that maybe he is mistaken.
I noted and advised Henry at that time that he does resemble the composite drawing of a possible suspect in this case and asked him if he had observed the drawings in the newspapers or anywhere else. He said he hadn't.
Due to the discrepancies, the fact that he and Chuck were in Keddie the night of the homicides and cannot prove their activities during that time (0300 or 0400 hrs), were at least close to the Sharp residence, and resemble the composite drawings, I advised Henry of the polygraph test and asked him if he had any objection to taking it to straighten out the inconsistencies. He took a very long pause and then stated he wanted to talk to Chuck to straighten it out. I advised him it would be best
