How did David McNarie (dmac) obtain the documents he uses?

So most of dmacs page is down, but when I was googled something parts of statements "previews"will pop up. One preview was from dmac stating a huge bundle of goodies had been dropped in his lap. I'll try to find it again because now I'm curious about the date.
