"At approx. 0240, 4-18-81, I brought in Meeks, D. W., for 23102(a). I placed him in front of the booking window. A subj. named Person of Interest was in the end holding cell. When POI obs. subj. Meeks, he became enraged. He began to beat on the door, yelling, "Put him in with me, I'll break his fucking neck!" "Tell them where the dope is, Meeks!" "Put him in here with me, I'll find out!" All these statements and many others were yelled at the top of his voice while beating on the walls and door."
Okay, I'll believe that. Marty was a screamer. Marty threatened. Marty probably even thought himself to be lawful good. Marty the Eternal Helper.
"At approx. 0300 am subj. POI lowered his voice from a scream and stated, "You know I got her, Meeks, and I'm going to get you in the same way!" Subj. was removed from the area at this time."
Huh? Lowered his voice? "You know I got her, Meeks, and I'm going to get you in the same way!" BULL. That's embelleshment right there--added to make it sound more exciting and colorful. Those are NOT Marty's words. No way. Sounds like that's straight out of the Wizard of Oz. He (more than likely) would have said something along the lines of "I'll catch you outside". That was Marty. Sure is convenient, though.
Then when the officer talks to Meeks, he asks about Marty's doings on the night of the murder and Meeks tells him MARILYN SAID that Marty and Bo "changed clothes". Marty readily admitted to "taking off his vest" etc. before returning to the bar. Good grief. How did certain statements just become so blown out of proportion? Let us not forget that Meeks and Marilyn had a pony in this race--any agenda to put a bug in the ear of a cop to make them concentrate on Marty.
Another thing. Meeks says Marty spent a lot of time at the "Cascades" but Meeks doesn't know where that is?? Doesn't that sound more like a place Meeks would know about and Marty would not? idk Did anybody get asked about these "Cascades"?
While all that is interesting, the part that gets me is that the officer doesn't even think to ask Meeks "JUST WHAT IN THE GREEN TARNATION DID MARTY MEAN BY THAT??"
Riiight. Totally believable.
Who is this "reporting officer"? (It sounds like only one?) I'd like to know because it appears he made up a tad bit of his story.
