I need to read my own website some time. Gamberg's "off the case?" I'm not convinced he was ever officially really actually ON it. And they've thrown in the towel on Vidocq? That reminds me to remind people:
The vastly overrated Vidocq Society do NOT investigate or reinvestigate cases. They just advise on one or two facets of a case. They haven't even done that for very many cases. It's really just two guys--a self-described "profiler" (don't get me started on the "usefulness" of "profiling") and a sculptor who taught himself to reconstruct faces from skulls. And that guy's dead. The rest of them are just a very small bunch of paying members who advertise their PAID "consulting services" on the Society's website. They never actually agreed to do anything with the Keddie case for the simple reason that DMAC and Gamberg never ponied up any money, because they could never get another TV show to pony up any money, because TV shows do NOT "investigate" jack squat. They just entertain.
People gotta understand that all these "cold case foundations" are just a way for retired pathologists, detectives, and other consultants to attract PAYING clients (usually lawyers) to work as "expert" witnesses. Mostly in lawsuits; occasionally in criminal cases. Just for the sake of publicity, they'll pitch in and help out on a "cold" case. Once in a blue moon. For publicity. The best one I know of is literally called The Cold Case Foundation in Provo, Utah. But let me put it this way--they conveniently have their own TV studio to make it easy to be "interviewed" on various cases for various TV shows--and "video affidavits" for court cases (not usually accepted in criminal court; used every day in lawsuits.) And they ain't cheap. But they are good.
And the Vidocq Society is pretty much at the bottom of that list. Now that the sculptor is dead, the only "expert" they have that I would hire is a forgery expert and maybe the retired postal inspector. Hell, I'm better qualified than the rest of them.
